Today's featured British artist is Andrew Macara

Andrew Macara was born in Derbyshire in 1944. Although he studied contemporary modern British Art for a short period with Leonard Fuller at the St Ives School of Painting he considers himself a self taught artist.

Today Andrew Macara is one of the most respected British Artists with a very distinctive style and he has enjoyed considerable success. Macara was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1981 and in 1984 he was elected to the New English Art Club.

Macara contemporary paintings regularly feature at the Royal British Artists (RBA) London art exhibitions. His contemporary paintings are also regularly exhibited at one of the leading London Art Galleries the Royal Academy of Art in their Summer Exhibitions.

Andrew Macara is now established as a very collectible contemporary figurative artist. His contemporary paintings are always in demand and much sought after. And, over the years his paintings have proved to be a good British Art Investment

Established in Stow on the Wold in 2003, Red Rag Gallery now boasts two exceptional premises, one in the popular Cotswold town of Stow on the Wold and the other in the World Heritage city of Bath. Spread across three historic cottages built in the 1600s, the Stow on the Wold gallery is full of traditional character and with ample room over two floors to display most of our artists at any one time in a charming, quintessentially Cotswold setting. Our Bath gallery is situated between the glorious Royal Crescent and The Circus in a stunning Georgian building, beautifully modernised on two floors with high ceilings and ample natural light. Both galleries occupy premises that we love, beautiful and traditional on the outside and stunning and contemporary on the inside. Each is unique with an exceptional amount of wall space, where all our paintings are displayed comfortably and in an ideal aesthetic. We are also extremely fortunate to have considerable storage space, ensuring a constant renewal of stock and alternative choices.

Both galleries also carry in stock a selection of limited-edition art prints of some of our more notable artists’ paintings.

We know all our artists personally and, in most cases, have dealt with them for many years. The paintings that we select for our galleries is all work that we love and would – and often do – have in our own homes. Most importantly, we encourage our artists to paint freely and to create work that motivates and inspires them rather than us be prescriptive.
