The Aran Islands, which are remote, are at the mercy of many storms and dramatic weather conditions. When the weather closes in the islanders become isolated from the mainland as boats and planes cannot travel. Val Byrne succeeds in capturing the brooding darkness of the approaching storm and the steely grey of the seascape.
