all contribute to Leman's great popularity. Leman has been described as 'the most sophisticated of 'naïve' British artists, but unlike many so-called naïve or primitive painters, he had a thorough artistic training. He often paints cats, this started with a painting of a small tabby cat in a decorative interior painted in the 1960s.

'Lighthouse' features a black and white cat whose markings match the colours of the lighthouse outside. As with all Leman cats we are engaged and drawn into the charming painting. Martin Leman has a special affinity with Cornwall and in particular St Ives, which forms the background to some of his most notable cat paintings. 'Lighthouse' is perhaps painted with reference to Cornwall.

Martin Leman has exhibited internationally, and is a regular exhibitor at London's Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. His paintings are held in many private art collections throughout the world. In addition to Red Rag Art Gallery Martin Leman has exhibited at other leading British Art Galleries. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the Martin Leman artist studio and like all Red Rag British art and Modern art it can be shipped worldwide.
