sketching, often using a single line, she records her immediate impressions of a place. On returning to her art studio, these drawings are used as a base for her larger paintings in oil on canvas, keeping the strong lines and using colours to recreate the atmosphere of a particular place.

'On the Beach' shows us a fishing boat and a simple building. On the sand the unravelled line and floats create a pattern of their own. Katty McMurray has chosen to portray the scene using clear strong lines and just a few colours. This style emphasises the graphic impact of the shapes and forms depicted.
