from the solid blackness of the eponymous 'Black Boat, Fife Coast'. The boat, in dry-dock is going nowhere. The windows of the houses behind the dock are almost like eyes watching over the scene.
David Smith finds inspiration in the colours and scenes of the east coast of Scotland. In 'Black Boat, Fife Coast' he has used a warm palette with colours and shapes one might expect to see in a rock pool. There is a real sense of the boat being part of the landscape, inextricably linked to the ebb and flow of Scottish coastal life.
David Smith has been the recipient of a number of art awards including the prestigious David Cargill prize at the 2001 RGI art exhibition. He is a member and current President of the Glasgow Group of Artists.
In addition to Red Rag Scottish Art Gallery David Smith has exhibited at other leading Scottish Art Galleries including the annual art exhibitions of the RGI, RSW and PAI. Each painting at Red Rag is sourced from the David Smith artist studio and like all Red Rag Scottish art and Contemporary art it can be shipped worldwide.
