'Resting Place' is one in a series of paintings where David Schofield has used a circular 'Glasgow tenement terrace' as a surreal frame and 'container' for his subject. The figure of a man turns away from the viewer, a toucan perching on his shoulder. The man is chest deep in turbulent water but does not appear to struggle. Maybe he, or the toucan, has found a resting place.
Schofield plays with ideas of scale, perspective and the viewer's reality versus the fairy-tale imagination.
